Update - Quesnel Warming Centre

News

The Warming Centre will temporarily move to the meeting room at 345 Anderson in front of Fire Hall #3 on Wednesday, September 17 and return to the Friendship Centre on Thursday, January 18.

Due to the weather forecast, the Warming Centre will be in place until Friday January 19.

During extreme weather events the City is able to access funds through the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness to support a daytime warming center (9am to 5pm). This assistance provides the City with additional funding to assist our partners in securing resources to staff and run facilities for this use. The Friendship Centre is typically open from 8 am - 3:30 pm weekdays for their regular programming and functions. This funding allows them to make their banquet room available for the warming center without compromising their other programs and extend the time to 5pm. At times the banquet room is booked for other purposes such as this Wednesday January 17.

The City of Quesnel, Quesnel Shelter Support Society and the Friendship Centre are in ongoing discussions on how to best establish and maintain emergency resources for extreme weather events in the future.
