New Junior Secondary School for Quesnel

July 19, 2019
News Release

Today, Mayor Simpson joined School District 28 Board Chair, Gloria Jackson, and Minister of Education, Rob Fleming, at the announcement of a new Junior Secondary School for Quesnel.

The Province of British Columbia is providing $52 million to build a modern new school, with more flexible space, beside the present Junior School on Maple Drive. The new facility will include a new Neighbourhood Learning Centre that will create new childcare spaces along with other community programs.

The new Junior school is expected to be ready for students in September 2022.

The funding from the Province will also cover the costs of the demolition of the old junior secondary school building on Kinchant St. Once demolition is complete, that property will be reverted back to the Province. The City will work with the Province and the School District to address any issues related to the child care facilities and community garden currently located on that site.
