As part of the City of Quesnel's ongoing Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP), fuel management activities are currently taking place at the Wonderland Trail network and will continue throughout the winter. Activities will include thinning, (spacing and pruning), falling, and pile burning. The burning will be away from the trails, but smoke may affect trail users. Trails will remain open to the public, but please follow all signage.
The combination of falling, thinning, and pile-burning are being carried out to:
• Reduce the chance of a catastrophic wildfire destroying critical infrastructure (homes, communications towers, water towers, etc.)
• Improve forest health and animal habitat
• Generate less smoke than out-of-control wildfires
• Protect the recreation values
• Further our mission of managing the landscape and improving ecosystem health
Residents and trail users may hear crews working with power saws and may experience smoke during pile burning.
