Tax Sale

• Properties are sold at the Upset Price which equals all outstanding taxes + penalties + interest + 5% tax sale costs + Land Title Office fees.
• All property sales are “as is” without warrant or guarantee by the City of Quesnel.
• The City of Quesnel makes no representation, express or implied, as to the condition or quality of the properties being offered for sale. There is also no representation made either express or implied regarding the suitability for construction or ability to procure building permits for any vacant lots sold.
• It is prospective bidder’s responsibility to search the title of the property in advance to determine if there are any charges registered against the property.
• Successful bidders must secure their bid by making payment to the City of Quesnel cashier by 1:45 pm.  Payment must be made by cash, certified cheque, money order or Interac Debit Card.
• Do not trespass onto the properties being offered for sale. It would be an infringement on the owner's right.

• Pay your property taxes and claim your home owner grant (if eligible) by the due date.
• Pay your delinquent taxes by September 9 to avoid your property from being listed in the newspaper.
• Pay your delinquent taxes, including interest, by mid-September to stop your property from going to tax sale.

The current owner has 1 year after the property is sold at Tax Sale to pay all taxes, interest, and charges to retain ownership of their property. Registered charge holders, as well as the owner, have full right to redeem the property.

As soon as the property is redeemed, the City of Quesnel will refund to the Tax Sale purchaser the purchase price, plus interest to the date of redemption.

The redemption period last for one year after the property is sold at Tax Sale.

During the redemption period, the property owner continues to have the right to live on the property but the purchaser has the right to enter on the property sold to maintain it in a proper condition and to prevent waste.

If the property is not redeemed during the 1-year period, the Collector registers the new owner at the Land Title Office, thus cancelling all previous charges, except for those matters set out in Section 276(1)(c) to (g) of the Land Title Act, and any lien of the Crown, an improvement district, or local district.
