A new school for Quesnel!
School District 28 is proposing to construct a new 16-classroom public elementary school on Nadeau Street, to replace the existing Carson Elementary school where geotechnical concerns have arisen.
Council provided first & second readings of Bylaws 1963 and 1964 and set the public hearing for May 21/24.
Quesnel urges hotel development & revitalization
Council provided first & second readings for proposed Bylaw 1959 Hotel Revitalization Tax Exemption Bylaw, which will motivate new hotel development and, upgrades to existing hotel/motel accommodation.
To be eligible, the project must:
- be 18 units or more, available to the general public for short term daily occupancy;
- have a new construction value, or demolition and reconstruction value of $500,000 or greater, based on the building permit for the project;
- meet the requirements set out in the City of Quesnel Zoning Bylaw and must be consistent with the future land use designation for the Parcel, as set out in the Official Community Plan; and
- the form and character of the project must be consistent with the applicable Development Permit Area Design Guidelines contained within the Official Community Plan.
Applications will be considered for a period of five years following adoption of the bylaw or when $250,000,000.00 of assessed value of improvements under the Revitalization Program have been reached.
Censure & sanctions of Mayor Paull
Council moved to censure Mayor Paull and imposed the following sanctions for his role in jeopardizing Indigenous relations with Lhtako Dene Nation and surrounding Indigenous communities:
- Removal of travel & lobbying budgets
- Removal from Organizations that require Council approval, including:
- Cariboo Regional District representation
- Northern Development Initiative Trust
- Removal from City Committees (except Standing Committees)
- Removal from Indigenous relations
- Required 'sincere' apology
